After the camp is before the camp: Welcome systems.camp Rhine-Neckar
The systems.camp is now an established GfSE event in Germany. In 2019, the region Rhine-Neckarhave been added. This means there will be four systems.camps in Germany in 2019.
In this guest article, Klaus Rödel, initiator of systems.camp Rhein-Neckar, explains how this fourth camp came about and what happened at the systems.camp in Munich in February.

The systems.camp Süd took place in Munich on February 23, 2019. Below is an overview of the event and the insights gained from it.
The topics in Munich: Agile Systems Engineering - MBSE - Mind Changing
13 participants from Germany and 1 participant from Switzerland had arrived. In the usual barcamp manner, we greeted each other "on a first-name basis" right from the start. This meant that nothing stood in the way of an open and friendly exchange between systems engineering beginners and professionals from the medical technology, power plant construction and consulting sectors. A total of 10 sessions took place in 2 rooms, 3 of which were discussed by the entire group.
The participants were very committed and contributed their experience to the topics. This passion for the topic of systems engineering was therefore very tangible. This also gave rise to the topic "How can I motivate colleagues in my environment for SE?", which was repeatedly considered from different angles during the course of the day.
The topics at systems.camp south
The following topics were covered in the various sessions:
- Mind change - SE is not just at the system level - systems engineering is an attitude
- Best practice in planning configuration and verification
- The silos are dead! Long live the silo!
- Enterprise architecture
- Interface system architecture - SW architecture
- Systems engineering applied in practice - tools and linking model with requirements
- MBSE and Colin's RE-Lifecycle
- Consistency - from the requirement to the PLM database
- Project management and architecture
- Handling of non-functional requirements in the system architecture
- "Can SE & agile work?" versus "Can SE work without agile?"
The systems.camp Rhine-Neckar
The GfSE's systems.camp events in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Munich for quite a while now. Nevertheless, I only attended February 2019 managed to attend a systems.camp in person. Before that always had some professional or personal reason against making the against making the 400km+ journey.
As I found that many others felt the same way as I did. That's why With systems.camp Rhine-Neckar, we want to promote local exchange and networking in the region. True to the motto:
Think global, act local.
After my first phone calls with the organizers of the systems.camp events, I was surprised at the positive response to my request "to organize a systems.camp in the Rhine-Neckar region". And that it is now possible to offer a systems.camp every quarter.
This means that in future, all SE enthusiasts will be able to choose the time and place that suits them best for attending the barcamp. Of course, repeat offenders who attend more than one systems.camp per year are also welcome.
All that remains to be said is that after a successful start to systems.camp South in February, we are looking forward to the Continuation on 18.05.2019 in Mannheimin Berlin in late summer and in Hamburg in the fall.
