The 7 most important German-language conferences on systems engineering

Further training is a must in many professions, and even more so in technical professions. There are many forms of further training: Reading books, attending courses, carrying out learning projects - and of course attending conferences, or even better: presenting at conferences.

The offer for systems engineers is broad, and the following is a list of conferences, without any claim to completeness. Is something missing? If so, I would be pleased to receive an addition in the comments section.

In addition to conferences, there are also Barcampswhich I have already reported on several times. Due to the generally very reasonable price and weekend dates, these are particularly suitable for people whose employer does not provide money or time for further training. User groups (usually evening events) also fall into this category. But that's not the point today.

Here are the conferences in chronological order.

Briefly in advance

A note in advance: There are also a number of conferences that specialize in specific industries, such as the MedConf or the Railway Forumsome of which are also quite large. But even these are not listed here.

Also somewhat confusing is the fact that many of the conferences have the word "software" in the title. Nevertheless, the conferences listed here also cover systems engineering, at least in part. Pure software conferences, such as the EclipseConI have not listed them here (although even EclipseCon extends the scope with a track for IoT).

November 8-10: Systems Engineering Day (TdSE)

The TdSE is the German Conference of GfSE and actually a must for every systems engineer. In contrast to many other conferences, the TdSE takes place in a different city every year, this time in Paderborn. Submissions are still possible until June 23.

December 4-8: ESE Congress

To my shame, I have to confess that I have never been to the Embedded Software Engineering Congress which is a remarkable event with over 1000 participants. Hopefully I will change that this year. By the way, I interviewed the founder and organizer of the congress for SE-Trends (Interview with Peter Siwon). Here, too, submissions can still be made this week (until June 11).

January 16-19, 2018: Software Quality Days

The Software Quality Days is the only event on this list that does not take place in Germany. Around 500 participants make the pilgrimage to Vienna to learn more about quality.

February 5-9, 2018: OOP

The OOP is a comparatively large conference with over 2,000 participants and has a correspondingly broad scope. Under the motto "Software meets Business", a wide range of topics will be covered, from formal methods to the integration of social media. Contributions can still be submitted until July 1.

February 27 - March 1, 2018: Embedded World

The Embedded World is by far the largest conference on this list with 30,000 visitors and is also more of a trade fair with an attached conference. For this reason, a distinction is also made between Embedded World and Embedded World Conference differentiated. As a member of the Program Committee, I will help to ensure that the quality of the contributions is high. Submissions are still possible until September 7.

March 5-8, 2018: ReConf

The ReConf is an established conference on requirements management, about which I have already have reported a lotas I regularly give lectures there. The focus has also broadened in recent years and there is usually a track for systems engineering and modeling. Papers can be submitted until October 9.

April/May 2018: ProStep Symposium

The last ProStep Symposium took place in May, the date for next year has not yet been set. This is a somewhat more exclusive event, organized by the non-profit ProStep iViP, but still attracts over 600 participants.

What is missing?

This selection of conferences is certainly influenced by my personal environment, and there are certainly countless smaller events - not to mention scientific conferences, which I have also left out.
