What is the Modeling Craftsmanship Camp?
Modeling is an important part of the system developer's toolbox, especially in the agile age. But hand on heart: a good model - whether in UML, Simulink or another language - requires craftsmanship. But where do you learn this skill? Nowadays, there is surprisingly little information describing the many small things and steps that go into an excellent model.

In this blog I try to disseminate useful information on system modeling (MBSE), among other things; but nothing is as effective as a face-to-face exchange.
The Barcamp on November 19, 2016 in Hanover
The Modeling Craftsmanship Camp on November 19, 2016 in Hanover will focus on these aspects. The barcamp is organized by Stephan Dankers and myself - some of you may already know Stephan from the SE scene.
A barcamp is a conference where participants bring their own topics. The format has been gaining in popularity recently, which is not surprising: after all, anyone who takes the trouble to moderate a session on their own topic will get a lot of customized expert knowledge in return. And barcamps are also much cheaper than specialist conferences.

Above all, we want to offer all those who work with pride and passion on their models an interactive platform for exchanging experiences.

The focus there is on everyday and pragmatic approaches to system modeling in order to get a little closer to the goal of model-based development every day, even in agile times.
Why craftsmanship in modeling?
A well-crafted model not only promotes communication during development, but also serves as documentation throughout the entire lifetime of a system. The modeling of requirements, behavior and structure of systems and other aspects such as functional safety, through to early proof of function using simulation, is an important part of product development, especially in agile times. In addition to important framework conditions in terms of management support, as well as suitable processes, methods and tools, technically clean and efficient modeling is also a key factor for the success of a model-based approach.
The topics
Possible topics could be, for example: Building and structuring models, optimizing diagrams and navigation, model-based review and feedback, analog modeling, models in everyday project work, models as a communication medium and source of information, modeling in agile times, hybrid models, document generation, toolchains, live modeling in meetings ... and and and.
Conclusion
In contrast to traditional conferences, at a barcamp the participants bring the topics with them and there are discussions and debates instead of frontal lectures. We look forward to lively interest and numerous participants.
