About the person

My articles are extremely personal. They reflect my rather heterogeneous family background. On my father's side, I have been involved in electrical engineering for at least 4 generations. In addition to the main line from the German-speaking minority in Belgium, a line of engineers from Garmisch was added during the turmoil of the Second World War. One of my great-grandfathers from the Garmisch line played a key role in the construction of the hydroelectric power plant in Dachau as chief engineer.

From my mother's side, there is also farming. Dairy farming, sheep and goose farming to be precise. My mother herself is a trained dressmaker and knows a lot about tailoring. My fascination with tractors and tractors comes from this lineage. I share this fascination with Hartmut Schorrig, my sparring partner in writing the series for SOLID. Many thanks to Hartmut for carrying out this task with the utmost conscientiousness. Hence the somewhat strange insert about requirements for tractors and haulers. Hartmut has GDR roots. Accordingly, the tractor insert is also, albeit a small part of German-German history. As an extreme Westerner, almost Belgian or Dutch, I must emphasize that the East was extremely innovative in a number of areas. Not only in tractors and haulers, but also in the fields of optics (Carl Zeiss Jena, now Jenoptik), databases and computer and compiler technology in general (Elbrus).
