This was the first time that the event was held twice a year (in addition to the 5th SE Camp in Berlin), and for the first time under the umbrella of the Gesellschaft für Systems Engineering (GfSE).

Thanks to all of you who organized the Barcamp Nord in Hamburg! It was a lot of fun!
(Thomas Lachtrup, participant)

Four seasons, four points of the compass

It is now becoming clear that there will probably be four syscamps a year in the future. The next one will take place on February 25 in Munich and the usual suspects in Berlin, Cologne/Düsseldorf and Hamburg have also shown interest in organizing camps in the coming year. This ensures a geographically even distribution. The GfSE will ensure that the timing is also right.

Barcamp with session documentary

As is now customary, interested parties met at the Ice Breaker the evening before. This was worthwhile because one of the participants gave us a simple Flipchart documentation for barcamps pointed out. We tried them out the very next day. Not every session filled the flipchart, but we did fill out nine sheets.

The sheets suggest how diverse and exciting the topics were. In some cases, there are more hidden behind the sheets, which can be found on a separate page at SE-Trends, where they can be discussed in the comments section.

The flipcharts are available in large format on a separate page. To the flipcharts >>

The event

A good 25 SE enthusiasts gathered early in the morning at the oose campus in Hamburg for syscamp.nord. As is often the case, the wall quickly filled up during session planning, and there was a lot of shuffling back and forth until all participants were satisfied.

This Barcamp broke new ground with a new location (Hamburg) and a new organizational structure (GfSE event). As can be seen from the flipcharts, there was a wide range of topics. However, one aspect ran through all the discussions: The topic of people. The experts in particular, who are already deeply involved in the topic - and recognize the potential - like to put their colleagues off without realizing it.

It was noticeable that in almost all sessions the statement "Don't forget to take people with you!" was repeated again and again. The systems engineering methodology is already very advanced and all the experts already know where they can go and how. But all the others who should/must apply the methodology in a company are not yet ready. They must be allowed to help shape and develop the application of the methodology. This is the only way to bring about change, the only way to achieve commitment and acceptance.
(Dr. Andrea Ramge, organizer)

At this point, a big thank you to GfSE and oose, who both actively supported the event with their respective infrastructures, as well as the organization team. And of course to the participants, without whose commitment the syscamp.nord would not have been possible.

Last Saturday, the 6th Systems Engineering Barcamp took place in Hamburg, the syscamp.nord.
