I took a look at this implementation and created a 2-minute video and commented on the whole thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a Jupyter notebook?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those who don't know it yet: A Jupyter Notebook is an interactive document that mixes text and executable content. It is ideal for experimentation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The interactivity comes from a runtime environment that runs in a sandbox. Initially, the focus was on data analysis with Python, but in principle any machine-readable language can be embedded in Jupyter Notebooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a 1-minute introduction to Jupyter Notebooks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eJDxcR1V7Qg?feature=oembed\" title=\"What are Jupyter Notebooks?\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\"  frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Experiment without installation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team has an open Jupyter notebook online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sysmlv2lab.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.sysmlv2lab.com<\/a> is available. This allows interested parties to play around with SysML v2 without having to install it. Of course, there is no guarantee that the models will suddenly disappear, nor is there a private mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install SysML v2 Jupyter Notebook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.se-trends.de\/en\/sysml-v2-reference-implementation\/\">Eclipse-based reference implementation<\/a> of SysML v2, the team behind SysML v2 also provides a Jupyter Notebook-based implementation. This means that we also have an implementation of SysML v2 based on web technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Jupyter Notebooks can be easily installed locally on your own computer (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Systems-Modeling\/SysML-v2-Release\/blob\/master\/install\/jupyter\/README.adoc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Installation instructions<\/a>). All you need to do is install Java and Conda. Of course, it is also possible to install it on a server and make it available to the team via the web interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To use the notebook (locally), the notebook must be started. You will then receive the URL on the console to access the notebook with the web browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Demo: SysML v2 Jupyter Notebook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following 2-minute video shows how to start the server and a small example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YnYDhFoQgzQ?feature=oembed\" title=\"SysML v2 in Jupyter Notebook in 90 seconds\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\"  frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The example shown here is just as minimal as the Eclipse-based reference implementation I recently showed. I show how to create and visualize a model using the text notation. I also describe very briefly how the notebook works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Extensive example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have more time, I recommend it, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vj5BOy5G8ho?si=r0SGeNILFmZY3-aI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this 2-hour video by Ed Seidewitz<\/a>. In the first 60 minutes, he shows a comprehensive example from automotive engineering using a Jupyter notebook. He shows the consistency, starting with the requirements, publication with API and much more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vj5BOy5G8ho?feature=oembed\" title=\"SysML v2 Demonstration | Ed Seidewitz, Manas Bajaj\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\"  frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What else happens?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.se-trends.de\/en\/day\/tim-weilkiens\/\">Tim Weilkiens<\/a> has created a list of SysML v2 tools. If you are interested, it is worth keeping an eye on this list. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \"usual suspects\" are already represented on the list (Sparx, Cameo), as well as a number of smaller manufacturers and open source projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also on the list is Siemens, but not IBM, which will surely change soon as Siemens and IBM are now working together on modeling tools. On the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.se-trends.de\/en\/trends-and-debates-highlights-of-reconf-2024\/\">ReConf last week<\/a> I learned that IBM will soon release a new modeling tool that is web-based and supports SysML v2. (To confuse users, it will probably also be called Rhapsody. As if we hadn't learned from the confusion of DOORS Classic \/ DOORS Next. We'll see...)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if there are other open and\/or free SysML v2 tools, a Jupyter Notebook is a very pleasant tool for experimenting.
