Last Thursday, systems.camp Nord 2017 took place in Hamburg. How last year<\/a> oose has kindly provided the Campus<\/a> made available. This year there were three tracks filled with a good mix of systems engineering topics.<\/p>\n

Read below to find out what systems.camp Nord 2017 was like.<\/p>\n

Session planning<\/h2>\n

As usual at a barcamp, the participants brought their topics and created the agenda in the session planning, which took place after the welcome. There were three parallel tracks:<\/p>\n

The range of topics was broad and had something for everyone. Last year<\/a> a central theme had emerged: people, who must not be forgotten in systems engineering. This year, such a focus was not apparent.<\/p>\n

A bouquet of topics<\/h2>\n

Even though there was no central theme, some elements were common throughout the camp:<\/p>\n

Internet of Things<\/strong> - Nowadays, systems engineering almost always has something to do with hardware and software. But the Internet of Things (IoT) was explicitly on the agenda this time with \"Systems Engineering + Internet of Things\" and was also addressed in several sessions.<\/p>\n

Agility<\/strong> - Agility is essential today, but the connection with systems engineering is not always easy. There were sessions explicitly on the topic, such as \"Introducing agile ways of working in hardware-oriented teams\" and \"Agile HW development, reacting to change\"; as well as implicitly, such as \"Social networks and systems engineering\".<\/p>\n

Modeling<\/strong> - Modelling was also a recurring theme throughout the sessions, as this has now been recognized as an \"enabling technology\". There were also general sessions on MBSE, as well as very specialized ones, such as \"Are conjugated SysML interfaces useful?\".<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/strong> - Requirements are an important part of systems engineering. No wonder that this topic was explicitly mentioned in some presentations, such as \"Dealing with cross-cutting requirements\" and \"SE vs. RE: Can they be separated?\".<\/p>\n

Socializing<\/h2>\n

But at least as important as the specialist topics was the personal exchange. This already took place at the Ice Breaker the evening before, where the topics of the next day were discussed over beer and Federwei\u00dfer.<\/p>\n

Snacks and a generous buffet were also provided during the camp<\/p>\n

systems.camp Munich and Modeling Craftsmanship Camp<\/h2>\n

If you enjoyed the systems.camp or were unable to attend, you can visit the next systems.camp in Munich on February 24, 2018, which will be organized by Colin Hood as part of the Munich Open Space<\/a> takes place.<\/p>\n

If you don't want to wait that long, you can also attend the event organized by Stephan Dankers and me. Modeling Craftsmanship Camp<\/a> in Minden on November 18. Even when it comes to modeling, systems engineering is rarely far away.<\/p>\n
