What does the Internet of Things (IoT) mean for requirements engineering?

The Internet of Things (IoT) is currently all the rage. But it actually just means connecting objects from the real world to the internet. As with many buzzwords, the concept is not new: systems have been networked for decades. In the past, however, this primarily applied to industrial niche applications. Now IoT is beginning to establish itself in the consumer sector. Just a few years ago, people were joking about networked toasters and coffee machines. But today, the car is the latest "thing" to be connected to the internet. Due to the high value and the many possibilities, this gave the IoT a huge boost.

But what does this mean for requirements engineering? This is covered in this article. However, only the trends that have a connection to IoT are listed here. Therefore, some important trends (agile, short iterations, etc.) are not included here. This is about IoT.
