The Society for Systems Engineering (GfSE) is probably familiar to most readers of this blog. As the German chapter of INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering), GfSE has defined its purpose as follows:
The aim of GfSE is to promote the best possible application and further development of systems engineering in German-speaking countries and to provide a forum for the dissemination and exchange of knowledge and experience in systems engineering.

To this end, the GfSE organizes the annual Systems Engineering Daywhere it regularly awards the highly endowed student prize for final theses in the field of systems engineering in a festive ceremony. As part of the award ceremony, the theses are presented to and discussed by the systems engineering community. In addition to the impressive prize money of €1,500 (for 1st place), all nominees for the final round will receive free membership of the GfSE for one year. During this time, we would like to introduce the new members to the working groups and introduce them to like-minded systems engineers. In this way, we promote a lively exchange with the universities and departments that deal with systems engineering methods. We use this exchange to identify trends and current developments and make them accessible to all members. A look into the universities is always also a look into the future. After all, today's students are tomorrow's colleagues who will bring their methods and tools into practice.
Systems engineering is still not known to all students. Yet the topic is becoming increasingly important. As systems become increasingly networked, the number of interfaces that need to be mastered is growing. The number of requirements for innovative products and services is increasing and, against the backdrop of sustainable development, many tried and tested solutions are no longer available due to the excessive CO2 -emissions or toxic emissions will no longer be available in the medium to long term. The extremely challenging task of achieving an adequate level of prosperity with growth rates and a simultaneous reduction in resource consumption requires a high-tech strategy that can only be achieved with efficient technical and organizational methods. This is why the fundamentals of systems engineering - just like project management, for example - belong in every engineering curriculum.

With the current call for entries, the GfSE is addressing lecturers and students at universities who supervise or write theses in Bachelor's and Master's degree programs on the subject of systems engineering. The GfSE would also like to publicize the study award in companies that award and supervise theses in this subject area. So if you are working on theses in the field of systems engineering, then the GfSE 2021 Student Award is definitely of interest to you.
