Your opinion is needed: What will happen in systems engineering in 2021?

"Forecasts are difficult, especially when they concern the future." There is certainly something to this oft-repeated quote. That's why I'm not venturing to answer it alone, but invite all readers to venture a forecast. I will publish the results on December 31, 2020.

The survey

Whether good or bad, revolutionary or evolutionary, driven by technology or coronavirus, for developers or users: what can we expect in systems engineering next year? Find out in the last SE trends of 2020.

Forecasts

"Forecasts are difficult, especially when they concern the future."

Karl Valentin, Mark Twain or Niels Bohr

There are several trends that are so big that they will not change for some time to come: The entry of software into the SE, for example, is far from over. And the topics of people and collaboration will certainly be with us for a while yet.

But these are also the challenges. When it comes to trends, we are more interested in the solutions. Will MBSE be the trend in 2021 with which we try to master complexity? Or will artificial intelligence make an increasing appearance here? Is agile working still the best way to support collaboration, or will new trends establish themselves here? When it comes to collaboration in particular, I can imagine that digital tools could increasingly replace whiteboards and workshops, driven by coronavirus.

Perhaps some trends will finally make a breakthrough, such as virtual reality and augmented reality.

I look forward to receiving a lot of feedback on systems engineering in 2021, which I will publish here on the blog on December 31, 2020.
