SE-Trends Christmas promotion!

teamseas

For some years now, fewer and fewer business Christmas cards have been sent. Instead, I'm getting more and more emails from business contacts asking for donations instead of sending cards. This is a trend that I would like to join. For every reader who receives SE-Trends by email on December 31, 2022, I will donate 80 cents.

Therefore: Register quickly for the e-mail newsletterso that you are counted!

The donation goes to...

#TeamSeas

TeamSeas is a campaign with the goal of removing 13,608 tons* of plastic waste from oceans, rivers and beaches. (* Why the crooked number? I'm an engineer and I can't bear to write "30 million pounds"). For every 0.89 euros** donated, another pound will be removed (** The currency used is US dollars. I would have accepted donations in GBP (British Pound) in order to be able to settle "pound for pound"...)

The cleanup work is being undertaken by two non-profit organizations: The Ocean Cleanup and Ocean Conservancy. As of December 15, 2022: 18,251,893 pounds of plastic waste have already been removed.

SE-Trends currently has 595 email recipients - many readers come to the articles via other channels, such as LinkedIn or Twitter. I will therefore donate at least €476.

The Ocean Cleanup

The Ocean Cleanup is a project with the aim of collecting plastic waste in the oceans. Its founder is Boyan Slat, who became famous in 2012 with a TED Talk. He was just 17 years old at the time and presented his ambitious goal. I was very impressed that he was not discouraged by all the nay-sayers.

It soon became clear that cleaning up the ocean is not enough. Too much new plastic waste enters the oceans every minute. One of the project's tasks is therefore to catch most of the waste in the rivers.

Mark Rober

I am on #teamseas via Mark Rober a YouTuber who, as a passionate engineer, creates inspiring projects. He particularly appeals to young people and has been involved in voluntary work for a long time. Here is his video about the #teamseas project.

Donate because we are doing well

I chose #teamseas because, as a systems engineer, I have a connection to the topic. But there are of course many other organizations that need donations.

2020 was a bad year and let's be honest: 2021 wasn't much better. But we are doing well compared to many other people in this world. There are many causes we can donate to: Against hunger, for refugees, freedom of the press and much more.
