"Where are other like-minded people in the field of systems engineering in Berlin? - Aren't there other people here in and around Berlin with a similar need to share their professional interests?"
We (Christian Gothe and Niels Krüger) asked ourselves this question a good two and a half years ago. To get to the bottom of the answer, we decided to set up a monthly get-together with a focus on systems engineering for other systems engineers and related species.
The SE Stammtisch is a very good way for me to network in the Berlin tech community. It's always (!) relaxed, personal and very informative. (Christian Gothe, Development Engineer)
The idea was then launched at the end of 2014 and was initially intended to run for a year to see whether or not such an event would resonate in the Berlin region: our monthly SE regulars' table is still taking place and next January we will be celebrating our 25th regulars' table evening.
Why a regulars' table?
The relaxed setting of a regulars' table is intended to provide space for informal exchange. Whether you are a regular or a new participant, everyone can exchange ideas with those present at eye level and in an informal atmosphere over a relaxed after-work beer. From clearly technical topics to tool issues and methods through to the field of social skills, many aspects have already been covered in the evening discussions. The great thing is the resulting spirit "from practice for practice".
How do I find the regulars' table dates?
The dates of the event are currently being announced via the "Systems Engineering Berlin" group we have set up on XING. In the near future, the dates will also be published via the newly created calendar for systems engineering events here at SE-Trends.de (in the right-hand column).
I can only give positive feedback. You rarely meet people on the same wavelength in everyday life with whom you can discuss SE topics in a relaxed atmosphere and exchange experiences. (Michael Fomenko, student)
As far as the dates for the SE regulars' table are concerned, we usually schedule them for the first Tuesday of the month. As no rule is without exception, we occasionally take a short summer or winter break and skip a month.
Where does it all take place?
Since a proper regulars' table should take place in a public space and above all in a gastronomic atmosphere, we naturally meet in one of the many bars in Berlin. To ensure good accessibility, we have so far focused on places that are close to Ringbahn stops.
We will announce the exact location together with the published dates.
Is there anything else I need to bear in mind to take part?
In principle, it is always possible for anyone interested to attend the SE regulars' table spontaneously. However, as we meet in a public location, we must of course make a reservation in advance. To ensure that the approximate number of regulars' table participants matches the number of reserved seats, registration in advance is required. This can be done via the XING group "Systems Engineering Berlin" or alternatively via Niels Krüger take place.
How does an SE regulars' table work?
The rough procedure depends on the opinion of the participants present at the beginning. From four people upwards, we are happy to offer the Lean Coffee Method* to discuss precisely the topics that interest the majority. If the "brought along" variety of topics is not so high and/or the number of participants is too low, we simply discuss "freely & openly" what moves the individual in connection with the diverse topics of systems engineering.
All those who are now curious are cordially invited to attend one of the upcoming regulars' tables and help shape it with their topics, questions and professional horizons - Christian and I are looking forward to it.
The regulars' table is exactly what you always miss in the working world. A relaxed get-together across company boundaries to talk about system engineering in a relaxed atmosphere. The initiators
Christian Gothe worked for several years in Systems Engineering at a Berlin-based medical technology manufacturer. He has recently taken on new challenges at a manufacturer of so-called "white goods".
He is one of the initiators of the SE regulars' table in Berlin.
Niels Krüger has been working in medical technology since graduating in electrical engineering. A few years ago, he began to explore the topic of systems engineering and subsequently established a corresponding specialist group at his current employer.
In addition to his involvement in the SE-Stammtisch Berlin, he is co-organizer of the systems.camp Berlin and co-group leader of the working group "Moderate-Complex Systems" at the Gesellschaft für Systems Engineering (GfSE).
