What the keynote is about:

Much of what I present will also be included in my book planned for next year Product Velocity thematized.

Product development is under pressure

Increasing complexity, ever shorter time-to-market cycles and global competitive pressure (keyword "China Speed") demand radical changes. Traditional development approaches are reaching their limits.

Agile approaches in systems engineering have so far only had a limited impact:

  • Silos remain in place
  • Development cycles are barely shortened
  • Many processes are more about compliance than progress

MBSE remains a niche solution. The result: long idle times, slow decisions, lack of adaptability.

Learning from software development

Software development faced similar challenges 25 years ago. A fundamental paradigm shift was the answer:

  • Version control
  • Semantic versioning
  • CI/CD
  • Automated tests
  • Open source ecosystems
  • Modern IDEs
  • Agile methods

These approaches have led to more speed, robustness and real parallelization. Can these principles be transferred to product development? Initial case studies show: Yes, it is possible.

Practical example and tools

SpaceX, for example, is revising its Raptor engines in a two-day rhythm - Design, production, testing. This is made possible by new tools that break down silos and simulate system behavior in real time. Tools such as Flow Engineering allows the effects of design changes to be recorded immediately.

The lecture addresses three central questions

  1. How is it already possible to carry out product development in a similar way to software development?
Examples from companies show how versioning, modularization and automated tests work in the physical world - and where the limits lie.
  2. Which new tools radically rethink product development?
Companies such as Valispace, Flow Engineering and Dalus are creating completely new possibilities with web-based, collaborative, AI-supported tools.
  3. How can true parallelization be achieved?
Lean systems engineering shows ways to achieve a quantum leap in productivity and speed through decentralized responsibility, clear interfaces and continuous integration.

This presentation provides impulses on how companies can increase their productivity in the short term and secure their ability to innovate in the long term.
