Instead of conferences: The free webinars of the GfSE

Conference organizers are currently in the doldrums: Since Corona, several conferences of interest to systems engineers have been cancelled. Hopefully they will resume in the fall, but certainly with restrictions.

There are various ways to quench your thirst for knowledge in the meantime. Today I would like to draw your attention to the GfSE workshops, one of which I will be taking part in soon.

GfSE Webinars

The Company for Systems Engineering (GfSE) has always organized webinars. However, it feels like the frequency has increased considerably recently, with 2-3 webinars per month. The webinars are also free of charge for non-members

Five more webinars will be offered until the summer. These include the topics of IoT, MBSE and validation.

In my presentation entitled "Pragmatic systems engineering through modeling", I will explain why we need to think in a results-oriented way and therefore not "from zero to one hundred" when it comes to modeling. Modeling should not be equated with UML/SysML. Click here to register free of charge.

More webinars

Of course, the GfSE webinars are not the only ones on the net, even if they are among the more interesting ones for systems engineers and are also in German. For example INCOSE has its own YouTube channelon which almost a hundred recordings of lectures can be found.

Many providers of software that enables engineers to work remotely have now set up webinars.

And the conferences?

INCOSE has since announced that the INCOSE International Symposium will take place as planned from July 20, but online. The keynotes in particular will be broadcast live, although all recordings can also be watched afterwards. Many questions are still open, such as the participation costs. These will definitely be reduced, but the specific amount has not yet been announced.

In the fall, on-site events are tentatively starting up again. After several systems.camps have been postponed, hopefully on September 12 with the Berlin camp continue.

The first major conference in our field that I know of is the Modern RE in Berlin on October 6. And from the GfSE, the Day of the Systems Engineering is planned for November 18.

Let's hope that we are spared a second wave of coronavirus and can meet up in person again in the fall - albeit probably with face masks.
